Working with Zander was normally peaceful. Adrik wasn’t old enough to go inside the casino. That fact gave him the perfect excuse to stick to the hotel and office areas where it was quiet. Normally, he stuck close to either Zander or one of Zander’s bodyguards. Adrik liked the silence of the place, but he didn’t like being unaccompanied. Today, he had borrowed Justice’s office just so he could be alone. He didn’t want anyone looking at him since Leo hung up on him. Adrik also didn’t want to risk running into Leo, if he had to stop by for work. While Leo didn’t swing by during Adrik’s shifts every day, Adrik was not taking any chances.
It ended up being Yaro who found him sitting on the floor behind Justice’s desk, watching security footage on his laptop and crying like an idiot.
“Oh, Kishka, what is all this?”
Even through his tears, Adrik couldn’t help but smile over getting called kitten. He swiped at his face and paused the video. “Don’t worry over me. I’m just having a day.”
Yaro’s gaze moved from Adrik to his bags, which were still sitting in the corner, and back to Adrik. “Did you sleep here?”
It wasn’t like he could lie. It was one thing to let Legend think he planned to stay at the hotel, and another to lie to Yaro. The man was like family. Adrik swallowed and nodded. “Justice said I could use his office whenever I need. He didn’t mean like this, but I didn’t have anywhere else to go.”
Yaro joined him on the floor. His odd-colored eyes were full of concern. “What happened to staying at Leo’s?”
Adrik shook his head. More tears fell. It was like someone had turned the spigot on the moment he was alone and now the tears wouldn’t stop falling. “I can’t stay there anymore.”
“You want Yaro to break his spindly legs? He means nothing to me.”
A watery laugh escaped Adrik. “No. It’s not his fault. He doesn’t love me like I love him.” The confession came without his permission, but once it was out there, he couldn’t stop. “I don’t want to keep his life on hold anymore because I’m broken and who the hell wants this?” Adrik motioned toward himself with all the disgust he felt in his heart.
“You will stay with Yaro. We will do all the fun stuff. Eat junk food. Ooooh, get facial. That is amazing. People have it so easy here.”
Despite the situation, Adrik couldn’t help but smile at this gigantic man getting excited over a facial. “I’ve never had one of those, but I couldn’t intrude on your home.” Because Yaro lived with Zander, and Adrik could not be any farther in Zander’s debt.
“No intrusion. The place is so big, no one would even notice you were there. You can’t stay here. What will you eat?”
Adrik shrugged. “I’ve gone hungry before.”
“Psssh,” Yaro said, blowing out a breath. “You may be a tiny kishka, but Yaro will not let you starve.” He looked around.
